 Using Analogies to Create Something New
In the programmed creative thinking exercises for grade-school students reproduced below, the desired
responses are completely original – ones never thought of by the person writing the exercise.  
 
 
HORSE NEST
   Most animals have a nest of some kind.
 
         
   Nests are animals homes.
   They live there alone or with their families. Some animals such
   as beavers make their nests in dams that they build in rivers.
 
     
   Other animals can find their ‘nests’ already made in the way
   a fox finds a hole or cave in which to spend the winter.
 
  
 
   Here is a different kind of nest.
